THE MALALIGNMENT SYNDROME: DIAGNOSING AND TREATING A COMMON CAUSE OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC PELVIC, LIMB AND BACK PAIN
Translated by Elsevier Korea LLC, 2013
ISBN: 978-89-94961-49-1

“I feel twisted”, “I look crooked in the mirror”, “My problems have been going on for years”, “I have tried every kind of treatment” are commonly heard statements. Whether you have complaints or not, it’s time to look at your body alignment, given that the pelvis and spine are not properly aligned in 80% of us. Think of a car that has an alignment problem! The tires wear differently and the car may wiggle and wobble, eventually causing structural damage to the frame and steering mechanism. We are not so different. Unwanted stresses caused by malalignment can affect every part of your body. You may feel it, for example, as “low back pain”, a “bursitis”, “tight hamstrings”. This book starts by explaining how your pelvis and spine function when in alignment and what happens when things go wrong. It describes some easy ways to recognize and treat the three most common ways the pelvis goes out of alignment. Then it outlines the “malalignment syndrome” – the typical changes and complaints associated with malalignment that, unfortunately, often lead to unwarranted investigation, misdiagnosis, and inappropriate and sometimes harmful treatment. After discussing the impact on various sports, it provides a comprehensive treatment approach aimed at achieving and maintaining your alignment making use of appropriate complementary techniques, and encouraging your regular participation to achieve lasting results…

“For someone not in the medical industry I was really happy to be able to read and digest the information that’s laid out in this book. After too many years of working in retail, then sitting at a desk since then, I’ve had a number of issues that I’m constantly going for treatments for. Foot pain, leg pain, back pain, you name it. I have tried so many doctors and paid so much money over the years and now after reading this, I really wished someone gave my doctors this book…. But I’m glad I got my hands on it anyways! I feel empowered. It gives you so much detail, but in layman’s terms and it explains how so many of us are out of alignment, which ends up leading to so many aches and pains that you don’t even realize where its stemming from. There’s so much helpful knowledge and practical guides on how to improve your body- things I think that my chiropractor/physiotherapist/doctor should have been looking at these past years…Yes it says for the general public, but even medical professionals need this book!”

“It is amazing to me that malalignment issues…can literally impact every body system. I am also shocked that malalignment is rarely considered as a diagnosis by medical doctors. This book is a wonderful resource for lay people and physicians alike.”

“When I read the book, it made ‘sense’ to me, based on my experience with my pain, my myriad of confused doctor visits (confused doctors and confused me), no one really getting to the root of the problem, and my intuition. It is logical: The body compensates and it is obvious when you know what to look for…Simple, subtle, yet the book is empowering.”

“The knowledge contained in this book is currently lacking in the medical field. Physical therapists never taught me how to self-assess my alignment and certainly did not teach me how to self-correct – even when I asked them! I can’t afford, nor is it realistic, to see a PT every week for the rest of my life to fix a problem I can easily treat myself or seek help for in a timely way.”

“Finally, in layman’s language, a clear explanation of the cause and effect relationships between joint and back pain and being out of alignment. Hopefully this understanding will bring an end to the merry-go-round of therapies focused on treating the symptoms, not the cause.”

“I’m a lifelong runner and have had hip alignment problems since I was a teenager. Not coincidentally, I’ve experienced most of the usual running injuries along the way. Being able to recognize and correct malalignment in my body has allowed me to manage my health and continue running – and even racing – well into my fifties. This book contains everything you need to know (and then some!) about malalignment and how to deal with it. I wish this material had been common knowledge forty years ago.”

“I have had a long history of back pain, caused by malalignment since I was nine years old. Different types of treatment were tried over the years, but these provided no more than short-term relief. With Wolf’s assistance, I have learned the importance of pelvic alignment for long-term stability, and understand how to manage and significantly reduce my back pain by using simple methods of self-correction, along with physiotherapy treatment when required. I know both professional practitioners and patients will greatly benefit from the knowledge in this book.”
